The Friends of Falls Church Homeless Shelter Board has approved a series of new initiatives to support the Falls Church community in a variety of ways that will include food support for an area shelter running a hypothermia prevention program, food and supply drives, and funding support for local community organizations that assist families experiencing homelessness or other financially struggling individuals to assist in keeping them housed and out of homelessness.
Food Support for the Fairfax County Region 2 Hypothermia Prevention Program – We will be coordinating food support for the Fairfax County Region 2 Hypothermia Prevention Program run by New Hope Housing. This year, due to COVID-19 and CDC guidelines, the shelter is being operated at the Lincolnia Senior Center near the Landmark Mall in Alexandria, VA. More information to come.
Food Drive to Support the Falls Church Community Service Council’s Food Pantry – We will hold a drive-up food drive at the Falls Church Homeless Shelter on Saturday, 2/13 from 10 AM – Noon and on Sunday, 2/14 from 1 – 3 PM. More information to come.
Household Supply Drive to Support the Families of Homestretch – We will hold a drive-up household supply drive at the Falls Church Homeless Shelter on Saturday, 3/13 from 10 AM – Noon and on Sunday, 3/14 from 1 – 3 PM. More information to come.
Funding Support for Local Community Organizations – Friends of Falls Church Homeless Shelter will provide funding support to local community organizations that provide emergency assistance to financially struggling individuals, keeping them housed and out of homelessness. Funding support will go to the Falls Church Department of Human Services, Falls Church Community Service Council, and Falls Church Education Foundation.
In addition, Friends of Falls Church Homeless Shelter will provide funding to Homestretch to cover the cost of housing for one year for one Falls Church family experiencing homelessness.
