Falls Church Homeless Shelter Closes Two Weeks Early

Dear Friends of Falls Church Homeless Shelter Community,

Late last week, Friends of Falls Church Homeless Shelter made the difficult decision to close our shelter two weeks early, on the morning of Monday, March 16.

This decision was a difficult one but we believe necessary because we do not have the facilities or capability of complying with the latest CDC guidelines for safely operating a shelter during the Covid 19 emergency. In addition, we were experiencing a sharp increase in the number of volunteer cancellations to assist at the shelter, including providing meals.

While we are not aware of any guest, staff member or volunteer who has the virus or who has been exposed to the virus, the safety of our guests, staff and volunteers is our top priority and we would rather be proactive in preventing that from happening because we would have to shut down immediately and without notice or advance planning if anyone were to become exposed.

We informed our guests on Friday night and were busy over the weekend working with them to provide resources and support as they transitioned either to Bailey’s Shelter or other arrangements. Several of our services remain in effect for them through March 31 as planned, including the support of a case manager, bus passes, and personal laundry.

Thank you for everything and we wish you well during this time of uncertainty.
